About This Project

RBA served as the engineer of record on The Johnson Center at Belmont University. The superstructure includes a six-level parking garage below grade and a five-story structure supported by the garage. The parking levels consist of two-way, post-tensioned slabs. The 398,234-square-foot parking garage includes 1,023 parking spaces. The upper four levels of the parking garage have direct access into the adjacent parking garage for the College of Law Building. The close proximity of the College of Law Building required precise coordination between RBA, the architect, and the contractor. One section of the parking garage is designed to support a future structure.

The five-story concrete structure above the garage is 134,049-square feet and is the home of the new Dining Hall, The Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business, Media Studies, and a new major in Motion Pictures. The Dining Hall occupies the entire second floor. Due to the large column spacing utilized in the dining hall, stage-stressed, post-tensioned concrete transfer beams were used above the second floor to support the upper levels of the building. This project is expected to achieve LEED Gold Certification.
