Three contracts developed in the late 1960s continue to the present time. PCI, the Precast Concrete Institute, hired the firm to perform audits of 27 producer plants across the United States who had voluntarily joined the Plant Certification Program. That program has grown to 285 plants across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, audited twice a year by the firm's engineers. The firm's engineers also conduct Quality Control Schools in Nashville and across the country to train and certify personnel from the participant plants. Nearly 3,000 individuals have come through these schools in the past 24 years.
PCI Plant Certification provides the means of confirming that a manufacturing plant has an ongoing quality assurance system in place.
With this program, the plant must consistently demonstrate their commitment to quality principles and practices. A 120-point audit examines all aspects of the plant operation, including engineering practices and management commitment.
Numerical grading is uniform coast-to-coast in large plants to small plants. Independent engineers make the appraisal. Grades are non-negotiable. Failures require a thorough review of improvements with an extra audit within 60 days. But most plants don't fail. They're committed to doing it right the first time, on time, every time.
PCI Plant Certification provides an assurance that a plant has quality commitments and controls in place. The program is approved by an entire national industry and continues to grow and develop since its inception 50 years ago. |
